ATN X Sight Review Black Friday Deals 2019

How’s it going guys coming at you with a review of this scope right here which is the ATN X site this is their 5 to 18 powered version and exite sent me this scope to do a review for you guys and we’ve had it for a couple months now and really I’ve put it through its paces the only thing that we haven’t actually been able to do with this scope is actually get out and do some actual hunting with it but that will change here in the very near future we’re hoping to get out and do some coyote hunting this winter with it so hopefully we’ll get some some kills on camera for you guys but but yeah we put it through its paces it’s a really really nice scope it is a nighttime and daytime capable scope so it’s a it’s a night-vision scope it’s an infrared night-vision scope so you can see right here there’s a TNS a long-range LR illuminator okay so this is an infrared Illuminator and what it’s run on to cr123 batteries and you know with with this illuminator this we could really see out to about 200 yards at night with the scope and that’s saying a lot you can actually see a little bit further than that but I really think a conservative maximum estimate for for distance is really 200 yards or less and that’s saying a lot because 200 yards is actually quite a capable distance for a night-vision scope so I really think that that it’s quite quite a capable night-vision scope but one of the cool things about this scope is it’s also a daytime scope so if you if you toggle between daytime and nighttime on the menu of this scope you will actually get a little a little click sound a little snick on the inside as as the the sensors are changed on the inside of the scope which is cool so that’s really what allows them to to use this as a daytime at nighttime and that’s a huge advantage because for those that are wanting to not have to change between scopes and change between zeros on a rifle you can leave this on for both daytime and nighttime use and that makes it a really really versatile scope so let’s go over some of the features of this scope b.top besides being a daytime and nighttime vision scope it also offers GPS and Wi-Fi so the GPS will allow you to record like altitude your this ittle geotag your position there’s all kinds of really cool features with that GPS so for those of you guys that are doing a lot of hunting backcountry and kind of want to see where they’ve been and kind of how long has taken to travel there that gives you that that option which is really really nice especially for those that are that are going to be like hunting via aircraft that’s a really really cool feature now the Wi-Fi gives you the advantage the advantage of controlling this scope via an app on your phone or your tablet and it really is a cool thing so not only does it allow you to control the scope via the app but it’ll also allow you to view what the scope is viewing on your tablet or your phone so you can actually see the image that the that the scope is recording on the the phone in almost real-time which is really really cool and I’ll show you that here in the video here in just a bit but but the application also controls it which is really really nice this is a digital scope so in the back the AH clear portion of the scope here is a little LCD screen so what you’re seeing is an image on a screen on the inside of the scope and that’s nice because it’s parallax free and it allows you to allows you a little bit more play beat on behind the scope without having to disturb the actual view of what you’re seeing through the scope for me one of the coolest features that this scope offers is that it offers digital recording so it will record in HD and it does it via a little port on the back through a micro SD card and what it’ll actually record in is it records in 1080p so 1080p HD with sound at 30 frames per second or it’ll also do with sound 720p at 60 frames per second which is really really cool because it allows you to record your shots on camera right through the scope so whatever you’re looking at is it’s recording via HD onto the card which is really really nice so for those you guys that want to kind of keep a video of your actual kills hunting videos that kind of thing it’s a really nice feature what that also does which is really really cool is it allows you to use this scope not just as a rifle scope okay so you can have it on a rifle and actually hunt with it but you can also take it off put it on a tripod and if for those of you guys that are looking to you know do research on on game trails or in your favorite hunting spot want to keep track of of herds you can actually do some nighttime reconnaissance with this scope so you can use it as a spotting scope as well and that’s also really cool because you don’t have to just sit behind it and view it through the reticle here in the back you can actually use it through through your tablet or your phone so you can see what the scope is seeing via your tablet or via your smartphone which is really nice and that makes it a lot better also as a spotting scope all right so let’s go ahead and talk about the build quality of this scope it does not feel fragile to me it feels like it’s going to be able to withstand a lot of abuse the anodizing is not my favorite it’s kind of a kind of a matte coat to it kind of a rough feel to the anodizing but for the most part you know that that matte is appealing to a lot of people but it does feel like this scope is going to hold up to a lot of abuse now on the top here we have our control panel so we we have our power button and we have our record we have a single image take we have our zoom features you can enter the the menu by clicking enter twice and then this allows you to to actually navigate the actual menu on the inside alright so let’s go ahead and show you a couple features in the menu itself okay so let’s hit to enter twice you can adjust your brightness level on your LCD screen there you can go from you can toggle between day and night here so let’s go ahead and hit it I don’t know if you guys heard the snick there but what that does is that now entered us into night vision mode now obviously there’s nothing being shown through the actual reticle right now but if we hit it again listen real close okay there’s a little snick and that and that turns it back into daytime mode okay so now we’re on daytime mode which is nice but if we just look at some of the menu options you’ve got different things you can do display you can change your capture settings here let me focus my my camera here you can do your recorded content turn on your Wi-Fi your gps go to your setup there there’s all kinds of different things one of the really cool features also I want to show you guys is the fact that you can change your reticle type there’s all kinds of different reticle types that you can actually use on the scope which is really nice I like the green it stands out really really well and you might want to use black when you’re actually using night vision but during the day I like the green setup and I like that that reticle so we’re going to leave it there that it also has a ballistic compensation thing which it’s still it’s still on the the experimental side so I haven’t really messed with it too much but maybe in the future firmware updates they’ll have a little bit more to it there that’s another thing about the scope is that that the scope will actually allow you to update the firmware on the scopes and that’s one of the nice things about this scope also is it allows etienne to give you software updates allows you to that allows them to tune certain features or adds add features in the future alright so I wanted to show you guys one of the really cool features with this scope and that is their one shot 0 so what I’m doing is I’m actually filming through the Aqua reticle right now so you guys can actually see the menu set up as well so what we’re going to do is we’re going to access the menu by the the control panel on the top of the scope we’re going to double click the menu the enter button we’re going to scroll on over here to the menu and then this is after you’ve taken your initial shot you go to display let me go down to reticle and what that does is we go down to the zero setup and this is going to bring up this screen here and what this does okay you’ve got a little X and a Y value there too so you can actually record your X&Y; value and then you can always bring it back on a manual setting just on that XY value itself but what do you do is you take that Center dot okay and you put that on wherever your point of aim was so let’s say your point of aim was right in the center of the target what you do is you put that green dot on the center of the target and then where your bullet actually impacted you move the reticle to that because so what we’re going to do let’s say we hit low and left okay what you’re going to do is you’re going to actually move your reticle over and you can see the X ticking by there and then you can move your Y down all right so let’s say your bullet impacted right there okay so you’ve got the the little green center dot there on the actual point of aim okay the center of the target and where your bullet actually impacted is where you moved your reticle to once you have that you just click the enter button and that will save and 0 your your actual scope so so you hit the enter button and now your scope is actually zeroed and I’ve done this actually a couple time with a couple couple times with a couple different loads and it’s worked almost perfect both times so it’s one of my favorite little features with this with this scope there’s really not a whole lot of finagling with it when you go to zero it it’s really really nice actually how it actually works alright guys so I wanted to go over the app that comes with the scope and this is the obsidian app that you can get free through like Google Play or wherever wherever you need it to get from but anyway it shows up this is the home screen cat you have your gallery your viewfinder and your settings if we click on view finder I am connected via the Wi-Fi okay if you click on the viewfinder you see exactly what the scope is seeing and right now it’s just it’s just showing my drop cloth okay so but if I put my hand in front okay there you guys see my hand passing in front of the scope yeah so it’s showing you real time and I don’t think you can record the record video to the SD card while you are doing the viewfinder setting so I’m not sure if that’s the case or not let’s go back to the home screen here sorry my camera is hard time focusing on light my phone let’s see there we go okay so we’re back at the home screen here let me show you the settings that you can go through and change well on the app so the compass I know this is getting washed out a little bit but you can change orientation of the compass the clock you can do the same too you can switch between day and night mode you can switch between green and black and white while you’re in night vision you can change your light amplification one of the things I’m having trouble with with this scope is during the day that target is getting washed out a little bit so I’m not sure if this actually because I just kind of discovered this feature here this setting I don’t know if this works on the daytime motor just the nighttime mode but either way you can change your your light magnification let’s just switch it back to medium their brightness levels are 1 to 5 we are on brightness right now we’re showing the reticle you can turn the reticle off you can actually switch between different types of reticles which is really really cool you can do the green I’m actually just switch over to the green just for the heck of it so let’s switch over to that green and then we’ll go back okay and so yeah so you can change different reticle types which is cool and then this is the 0 set up and and there’s actual zero set up in the actual scope itself and we’ll do I’ll actually show you that feature here in just a bit shooting solution ok this is like a ballistics drop setting experimental right now they’re there they’ve got a little you know little disclaimer right there but I do have my velocity for my my Grendel shooting the Hornady rounds and so I’ve got that set up but kind of just messing with it a little bit you know you see systems like tracking point and things like that that are using you know digital ballistics drop compensators I think that’s going to be a huge huge thing in the future I think that’s a really really cool idea and it will make long-range shooting a lot easier for for folks so anyway experiment a little 6 drop compensator haven’t messed with it too much here so let’s go back now you have your your capture settings you have video mode resolution changes up you can do the 1080p at 30 frames or the 720 at 60 frames we’ll just keep it at the 1080p turn your microphone on and off photo mode you can time your photos you can also do numbers of shots delays between the shots and you can also geo track or geo tagged all of your photos GPS turning on and off okay you can change your your digital zoom to standard or extended this is a 5 to 18 power scope so really the standard is 5 power it’s really it really is going to excel at five power because you’re looking at a 1080p actual reticle and so the more you zoom in the more you know the more grainy your image is going to be because it’s a digital zoom so it’s not an optical zoom so just keep that in mind when you’re getting this you might you know this v power I really like I like shooting a v power but that I found that the going up to 18 power you know helps me sight in really really nicely and so you know just knowing that you are going to get more grainy because it is a digital zoom just keep that in mind when you go to get the scope now you can change your you know clock source you know Wi-Fi manual date format date-time format time unit standard metric and then you can also format your card from the actual settings as well there so let’s go back to the home screen again you can see what the scope is viewing through the viewfinder let’s go to a gallery here you can see that I have one video and let’s click on the video and what it’ll do is that you can actually play this is being played right off of the actual scope itself so this video is stored on the Scopes SD card and it’s it’s streaming via the my phone here so that’s pretty cool anyway guys there’s a look at the Obsidian application that comes with and get it through Google Play or wherever you you get your apps from free app and that’s what allows you to you know really you know use the the Wi-Fi setting on the scope alright so I wanted to show you guys the Wi-Fi feature of the scope because I think it’s really one of the coolest things coolest aspects about this scope and it’s something that you can project the image or whatever the scope is seeing onto your mobile device like your your cell phone or your tablet or whatever and so I wanted to show you that here so what I’ve got is I’ve got the scope font focused on me so you guys can see this is the image that the the actual scope is seeing right there on my phone you can tell that there is a slight delay mainly because the image has to go back and get computed and then sent out via via Wi-Fi and then it has to be received and and the device has to project it so there is a bit of a delay but I still think that you could use this as a as like an external targeting program so like you could really not even be behind the gun and you know be sitting next to the gun gets your target on there if you can see on the screen I don’t know if you guys can see that let me move around just a little bit you can see that there is the reticle right there in the middle of the screen so whatever that that daughter that reticle does crosshairs are on is where your bullets going to impact and so I think that’s a really really cool feature I think the Wi-Fi is one of the coolest things about this scope I just wish I don’t think you can record video on the from the scope while you’re connected to Wi-Fi couldn’t figure that out if I could do that but so I wish that that that you had that option but either way I think it’s a really really neat option this Wi-Fi feature alright so let’s go through and talk about some of the pros and some of the cons with this scope some of the things I like and some of the things I don’t like you know one of the biggest advantages this scope is the fact that it’s priced right okay so other you know competing scopes on the market can be multiple thousands of dollars and this is MSRP I believe $6.99 so you’re going to be street price in the low 600’s maybe the high 500s and for what you’re getting that is a phenomenal price I know that a lot of people will choke on the idea of spending six hundred bucks on a scope like this but but for the most part if you really look at the at the competitive options this is one of the most economical options out there and you’re getting a lot for your money for me one of the biggest upsides this scope is the fact that it does record HD video which is really nice for those of you guys that are that are wanting to use this as a hunting scope and want to record your hunts I mean that is just awesome the ability to record an HD with sound really really nice another cool feature with it is the GPS you know for those that are doing a lot of backcountry hunting and they want to kind of see where their their elevation climbs are it will record your elevation it’ll geotag I mean there’s a really a lot of cool features with it for those that are running in a car hunting from a car or hunting from a helicopter Darien will record your velocity your altitude all really cool things the other thing that I really like about the the scope is the Wi-Fi capability running that being able to view what the scope is viewing from an external source like a cell phone or a tablet I think is really nice and that comes into play a lot if you’re using this as a spotting scope and not a rifle scope I also really like the one shot 0 feature I think it’s a really really nice feature and it makes it easy to use and easy to sight in and I think that that’s really really nice it makes for it makes for a lot better usability of the scope I also think it’s really well built I’m not a fan of the anodizing or the coatings that they using on it but for the most part it seems like a very robust scope and it doesn’t seem fragile at all I also like the idea that you can customize the scope a lot you can change up how you use the scope a lot you can change the reticles and I and I also like the fact that they will that they release firmware updates for this scope so what that does is it allows etienne to change to change features to improve features or to even add features to the scope via software and I think that’s a really really nice thing and it keeps the scope way up to date alright so let’s go ahead and talk about some of the things I don’t like about the scope one of the the things that I don’t like about the scope is that it has kind of poor battery life it runs on four double A batteries and I believe you can use rechargeable batteries but I know you can use lithium batteries as well and so lithium batteries are going to give you the longest runtime but what I was finding with alkaline batteries is I’m really getting less than two hours worth of actual use out of the scope and so you’re really you’re really chewing through the batteries with this but what I did discover is the fact that you can use an external battery source so this is like my my little battery pack that I use in my EDC and this is used I use it to charge tablets phones things like that but I found that if you plug it into the port on the side you can actually run the scope off of external battery source which is really nice and so I’ve had these these bat this set of batteries in this scope for about a month now and I’ve used it quite a bit and and and I’ve just been running it pretty much on an external source so once I discovered that the battery life issue wasn’t a big deal the only downside to using an external battery is the fact that you lose your waterproofing you actually have to take off the little housing thing on the back and so you don’t have a low ring seal anymore so you want to be careful when you’re in wet environments if you’re using an external source battery but for the most part you know it’s a it kind of negates the the bad the the poor battery life another disadvantage of the scope is that it’s heavy but but you’ve got to kind of look at the weight as a relative thing because you know other night-vision capable equipment of similar nature are also very heavy so it’s just kind of the way it is but it is a very heavy scope and so it will add a lot of weight to your rifle one of the things I’d like to see Etienne improve in the future on this scope is I’d like to see a higher resolution screen on the inside you know the records in HD I’d love to see a higher resolution that will come with with bettering of technology that will come later on but for the most part right now it’s usable it’s not it’s it’s fair it’s not poor resolution it’s it’s it’s fair or good resolution so it’s actually very usable but I’d love to see a better screen in it in future iterations alright so now I want to talk about the two biggest disadvantages that I see with this scope the two things that I really do not like about the scope one is that this scope is a night-vision scope so the objective lens is designed to really suck in the light okay and because of that it excels well as a night-vision scope now during the daytime I actually had issues with the daylight so bright light bleaching out my target so I had my paper target facing east and I was facing West at the target and as the Sun was coming up and very bright over them over the the mountains I was actually the light that was coming off there the light that was reflecting off the target was actually being bleached out so instead of seeing the multiple different parts of the of the actual target I just saw a white piece of paper and I couldn’t differentiate the target at all and I tried to do several things to to fix that and the only thing that really remedy did it all was to cover up to put part of my hand in front of the objective to actually limit the light that was coming in to the objective lens and that allowed me to see the target but that is less than ideal and so I’d really like in the future to see Etienne kind of put more of a contrast control or do something to help mitigate some of that excess light coming in to the objective during the daytime so it’ll help make that a little bit more usable so that was one of the things that I had a problem with it made it so I could even shoot that that morning that I actually went out to use it so so that’s definitely a downside for me the other thing that’s a downside is the fact that it has a very narrow focal view meaning that if your target has at a hundred and you’re focused on that and you move to a target at fifty yards it’s going to be very blurry so there’s a very very narrow window of focal view their focal length and so you know that’s going to that’s going to limit some of the versatility this scope it’s going to make it so if you’re doing some like snap snap hunting like if you’re walking through the woods and you come up on a target or see a see a target it’s going to make it so you’re going to have to spend some time focusing the actual scope before you can take a shot so that that makes it so it’s hard when you’re using this scope on the fly now where this the scope is going to do well is when you’re sitting in a target stand or in a blind and you are shooting at a known distance so if you have like a feeder out corn feeder or something waiting for the Hogs to come in at night and you’re focused on that feeder area you’re not going to have an issue at all with the focal the focal view but some if you have a target that comes in at 50 you’re going to have to change your your focal view in order to get to that target so so the narrow focal view is going to going to excel it’s going to do well in in fixed distances but it’s not going to lend itself really well to you know variable distance targets so so that’s a downside those are the two biggest downsides the XS light-gathering during the day and the narrow focal view overall though I think it’s a really great scope and I think that for money it’s really really hard to beat you know this scope again you can use it as a rifle scope as a hunting scope but you can also use it as a spotting scope as well so you can use it you know for nighttime reconnaissance you know maybe checking on your cows or your herds or something like that you can use it for for multiple different applications and I think that that makes it a very very versatile thing for those that aren’t just using it for shooting so I think that that’s cool you can put it on a tripod and record your game trails so there’s a lot of really cool applications for the scope so I know that this is kind of a technical piece of equipment and hopefully I can answer any questions for you guys if you have any questions on the scope leave them in the comment section down below if it’s a technical question that I can’t answer I’m going to see if a TN can roll in and and actually answer questions in the comment section down below hopefully you guys will get your answer to your questions and if I can’t get one I’ll try to get one for you but but yeah this is a great scope guys I
